BMC is a slow, harassing and corrupt therefore buildings collapse

http://santacruzpatrika.blogspot.in/2010/08/shankar-lok-stands-tall-inspite-being.html
I have been fighting on the demolition of the dilapidated building 'Shankarlok' for a long time. But, no action has been taken by the concerned authorities. This is an article I had written about the dilapidated condition of this building in August, 2010. I had also about 3 months ago given a byte on condition of dilapidated buildings in a Mumbai based news channel with special reference to 'Shankarlok' that collapsed today. Whenever, I spoke to the concerned authorities, local corporator they answered that they are helpless because one tenant, a lawyer in High Court has filed a case in court. Does this mean that a lawyer who has filed a case in court can play with the lives of innocent.? Secondly, why the courts have delayed action at the sacrifice of human lives.? Last week too BMC had served a notice u/s 354 asking the residents to vacate as the building being highly dangerous could collapse. Had the building collapsed during midnight the casualties would have been far larger as many from the adjacent slums had left for duty. It high time that the BMC, police should be given high handed power to evict the tenants of dilapidated and dangerous buildings. The courts too should be more constrained in entertaining dilapidated buildings. This is a clear case of one family who were reluctant to vacate has played with the lives of many innocent.

  • Alok Tholiya My old building Saburi , Vakola Bridge,Santacruz east too is dilapidated. I hv written several time to all concerned but they never bothered. Luckily now the structural audit of building older then 30 years has become legally must. BMC gave me notice to carry out audit. I submitted report to them which says building is in state of falling. But BMC officials hv not bothered to advise, act, reply on same.
